Director Nora Ephron (who wrote When Harry Met Sally) mines the wonderful and natural chemistry between Hanks and Ryan. Sam Baldwin (Hanks) is recently widowed and lonely--he just doesn't realize how lonely he is. His son Jonah calls into a radio station and, instead of winning concert tickets, connects with a sympathetic ear in Annie (Ryan) who lives on the other side of the continent.
